Bascule bridge over Ramsdiep - Hollandia

Bascule bridge over Ramsdiep

The new Ramspol bridge is part of the work package “project N 50 – Ramspol-Ens” within the so called “Programma Spoedaanpak Rogen” (programme for urgent road works) of the Rijkswaterstaat. The new bridge consists of fixed concrete bridges and a steel movable part, the bascule bridge. The movable part consists of 2 bridge gantries, where the first gantry has 2 lanes of traffic and the second gantry, next to the 2 lanes of traffic, also offers space for a parallel road with bicycle path.

The Ramspol bridge is a so-called energy neutral bridge.

The work has been carried out on the basis of a design & construct contract based on the UAV-GC 2005 with Systems Engineering. The Ramspol bridge is a so-called energy neutral bridge. This means that the bridge generates its own energy by using the energy that is released by braking the movable valve. Together with the energy generated by 320 solar panels, which are located on both sides of the bridge, this produces enough energy to compensate for the consumption required to operate the bridge. This is a unique concept in the world. Rijkswaterstaat won the Golden Ant with this plan. The three locomotives are equipped with a Panama wheel drive.
