On Thursday 30 January, the bascule span – the movable section – of the Hambrug was expertly lifted out and transported to the Hollandia yard in Krimpen aan den IJssel. Here, the bridge span will undergo a thorough refurbishment. The works include:

Repairing steel damage

Applying a new coat of paint

Welding the footpath – which was once added separately – firmly to the bridge span. This eliminates the risk of water damage and corrosion, while also providing additional strength.
On Wednesday 19 March, the refurbished span will be hoisted back into place.

Commissioned by the Province of South Holland, Hollandia Services is carrying out renovation works on nine movable bridges in and around Delft. Following the successful refurbishment of the Kruithuisbrug, it is now the Hambrug’s turn.
