As part of the modernisation and expansion of the ro/ro facilities in the ferry harbour at Dover in the UK, a completely new pier has been built with two ro/ro piers (Berth 8 and Berth 9). The steel construction work and associated hydraulic drive were carried out by Hollandia under a Design & Construct contract with main contractor BAM Nuttall.
The new piers are suitable for continuously accommodating 210-metre-long ferry ships. Both piers have a 60-metre-long hydraulically powered steel upper deck and a lower deck. In addition, a 100m long pedestrian bridge provides access for non-motorised traffic. The steel lifting gantries weigh approximately 150 tonnes each.
