Hollandia Infra designed and delivered the new drawbridge for main contractor Heijmans Civiel Grote Projecten, who realised the total work, the replacement of the bridge, for Rijkswaterstaat.
All stakeholders attached great importance to the bridge being out of service as soon as possible due to the replacement, which resulted in an order to realise this within 2 months.
Hollandia Infra shows that it does not revert to standard solutions, but raises the bar by looking how functionality and aesthetics can be brought closer together in the execution.
The old nostalgic drawbridge on the Dr Deelenlaan in Tilburg was no longer suitable for the current capacity of road traffic. In addition, the bridge was one of the engineering structures within the “Wilhelminakanaal widening project” that needed to be adapted for shipping.
With the Design & Construct contract Hollandia Infra is responsible for the design, the manufacturing and the assembly of the steel upper structure of the drawbridge and the hydraulic installation for the drive.
The municipality of Tilburg and RWS have set high standards for the spatial quality of the bridge. Implementing the architect’s sketches and thus complying with the image quality plan required good cooperation between the architect and the design team.
Rijkswaterstaat and the architect have expressed their compliments about the final result.
