A challenging task commissioned by Gemeente Den Haag: removing the bridge section of the Boekhorstbrug. On the surface, this may not seem like the toughest challenge—certainly not for Hollandia Services. But the reality is quite different. Imagine manoeuvring a bridge section measuring 10.8 x 6.3 metres through a residential neighbourhood. It requires precise adjustments to avoid traffic signs and trees.
Since the surroundings weren’t designed for such operations, an alternative method for lifting the bridge section had to be devised. Together with Transportbedrijf Goudriaan B.V. , we found a solution: jacking up the bridge section using climbing jacks. The section was raised high enough for the lorry to fit underneath. It was then rotated a quarter turn so it could lie lengthwise, significantly reducing the space required for transport. And so, the plan was executed.
The bridge section is now undergoing major maintenance at our yard in Krimpen aan den IJssel. Our E&I colleagues are installing a new electrical system, while Hydroton | Hydraulic Systems is replacing the hydraulic components. Civil engineering support is provided by J. Boonzaaijer Aannemingsbedrijf B.V., and finally, Gelders Staalstraal- en Schildersbedrijf B.V. is applying a fresh layer of protective coating.
