Since September 1st, 2023, the Ring Road South of Groningen has been open again, with traffic crossing the new Euvelgunner Bridge. With this, the project – started at Hollandia in 2016 – has almost come to an end.
The Euvelgunner bridge is a subproject of Combination Herepoort’s extensive project “Aanpak Ring Zuid”.
The two bascule bridges of the Hoge Euvelgunnerbrug have been replaced, as well as the historical drive system in the basement, which has been replaced by a hydraulic system. The steel components of the movement system ( chairs, pillars, portals and tie rods) were brought in through a recess in the back wall of the bridge basement and installed at height under the basement roof. The hydraulic cylinders and the drive HPU were supplied by Hycom Inc.
The crucial part of this renovation job took place during a 7-week traffic interruption in cooperation with Hollandia Services and Wagenborg Nedlift.
