Milestone Cruquiusbruggen (N201) - Hollandia

Milestone Cruquiusbruggen (N201)

On Wednesday, 10 December, the renovated steel bridge deck of the Cruquiusbrug in Cruquius was successfully installed. The hammerhead towers and balance beams were also assembled. This marks an important milestone, as it signals the start of the final phase of the renewal of the Cruquiusbrug. Completion of the works is scheduled for the end of March 2026.

Greater wear than expected

The bridge deck in the direction of Hoofddorp was thoroughly renovated at our yard in Krimpen aan den IJssel. After dismantling and removing old paint layers and corrosion, the level of wear proved to be greater than anticipated. Thanks to careful restoration, the bridge deck is now ready for at least another 30 years of safe use.

Strong winds

Due to strong winds, it was uncertain for a time whether transport and lifting operations could proceed. Fortunately, the wind subsided just in time, allowing the pontoon to depart safely. Using two large cranes, the approximately 66-ton bridge deck (11 x 23 metres) was successfully installed.
The project is being carried out by the contractor consortium Hollandia Infra and  Van Hattum en Blankevoort. The bridge components are built and renovated at our yard before being installed on site.

Industrial, Flexible and Demountable (IFD)

Between 2023 and early 2026, the Cruquiusbruggen are being replaced and renovated to be as circular, energy-neutral and low-maintenance as possible, in line with the principles of Industrial, Flexible and Demountable (IFD) construction.

The bridge section towards Heemstede is being replaced and widened to create additional space for cyclists and pedestrians, while the bridge section towards Hoofddorp is undergoing major maintenance. This will improve safety and traffic flow on the N201 for all road users.

The renewal project is a collaboration with the Provincie Noord-Holland, Gemeente Heemstede, Gemeente Haarlemmermeer, Vervoerregio Amsterdam en Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland, commissioned by the Province of North Holland. With thanks to all involved partners:KWS Infra | Vialis | Sarens
