The innovative strengthening method for the #Suurhoffbridge has succeeded! Hollandia Services – commissioned by Hollandia Infra from the #STIPT consortium – has carried out an innovative strengthening of the steel road deck of the bascule bridge.
The reinforcement consists of placing 30mm thick steel plates on the existing deck. These plates are secured with bolts and a layer of epoxy. This reinforcement method prevents fatigue cracks from appearing in the steel deck during the remaining life of the bridge. During the preparation of this work, we worked together with Rijkswaterstaat and the engineering firm Arup to perfect the overall approach. The concept was tested by means of various test set-ups at our yard in Krimpen aan den IJssel.
The result is a safe and reliable Suurhoff bridge that, in combination with the new arch bridge, will keep the Maasvlakte accessible for years to come.
Building consortium #Stipt, consisting of: Hollandia Infra, Dura Vermeer, BESIX NL and Mobilis TBI are realising the temporary #Suurhoff bridge on the A15 motorway near Oostvoorne for the #Rijkswaterstaat.
