On Thursday 8 May, the Clyde Waterfront and Renfrew Riverside Swing Bridge in Glasgow was officially inaugurated during a well-attended event organised by Renfrewshire Council. With strong interest from the local community, partners, stakeholders, community groups and local schools came together to celebrate the completion of this impressive project.
The bridge was officially opened to traffic on Friday 9 May and now forms an important link between the communities on either side of the River Clyde. The 184-metre-long double bobtail cable-stayed swing bridge not only adds a striking visual feature to the surroundings, but also plays a vital role in improving connectivity across the region. Among other things, the new connection creates direct routes between Yoker ScotRail station and Inchinnan Road in Renfrew, while also providing better access to Glasgow Airport.
The Project
The entire project was commissioned by construction and civil engineering company GRAHAM Group. Hollandia Infra, together with Iemants, was responsible for the design, construction and assembly of the double swing bridge, with Hollandia Infra delivering the southern section and Iemants the northern section. Hardesty & Hanover, together with Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD), was engaged for the design of the spans and movable components.
