The Haringvliet Bridge was constructed in the 1960s. After more than 50 years of intensive use, it requires thorough renovation to ensure it remains safe and accessible. The movable part of the bridge has already been renewed, but after 2030, the fixed part will also need to be addressed.
From April 2023 to the end of 2024, Hollandia Services, in collaboration with Rijkswaterstaat, is carrying out work to reinforce this fixed part of the bridge. These efforts are intended to ensure that traffic can continue to safely use the bridge until its full renovation.
To minimize disruption, during the summer closure for replacing the bridge’s movable section in the summer of 2023, we installed 18 steel connecting beams. We also reinforced all the angled support beams beneath the deck of the fixed bridge with welding.
We are currently installing 1.8 kilometers of steel reinforcement beams inside the bridge. This work does not affect road or waterway users since it is primarily taking place inside the structure.
While the replacement of the movable section was a major project, these reinforcement efforts also represent a significant undertaking with many complexities.
