We currently finalize the construction of 2 Vertical Segment Gates (VSG) that soon will be part of the storm surge Boston Barrier in the UK. These “Wet Dock Gates” will be installed at the entrance of the Port of Boston, where they will function as the secondary flood gate within the Boston Barrier Flood Defence Scheme. These doors will not only protect against flooding, they also keep the water in the harbour up to standard so that ships cannot run dry at low tide. The tidal difference in the river The Haven, which has an open connection to the North Sea, can be as high as 5.8 meters. Earlier we also built the primary barrier, a 30 meters wide ‘Rising Sector Gate’ (RSG) that can shut off the entire river in case of imminent flooding. Both barriers are part of the Boston Barrier Flood Defence Scheme that will protect some 14,000 households in the #Lincolnshire hinterland from flooding.
