Major maintenance of the Algerabrug in full swing

Major maintenance work on the Algerabrug is in full swing. An important part of this work is the replacement of the two road decks of the main carriageway.

The main carriageway consists of two road decks, both of which have been completely replaced. The two main girders supporting the road decks have been retained. To enable their reuse, they were first thoroughly inspected, overhauled and repaired where necessary.

The new road decks also required extensive preparation. They were assembled as completely as possible, including the timber deck sections and wearing courses. This allowed a large part of the work to be carried out before installation, keeping the installation time on the bridge to a minimum.

Following the removal of the old road decks, the time had come this week to install the new ones. Using a 450-tonne crane, both road decks were lifted into their final positions.
