Major maintenance of the Nieuwe Meersluis - Hollandia

Major maintenance of the Nieuwe Meersluis

The Nieuwe Meersluis in Amsterdam is due for maintenance. The two rolling gates of the lock are currently still operated using an outdated drive system and control system. To ensure the lock is fit for the future, major maintenance is being carried out.

As part of this project, we are renewing the drive and control systems of the two rolling gates. In addition, three of the four sluice valves will be upgraded. The fourth sluice valve was already modified during a previous project. We are also replacing key safety systems, such as barrier gates and signalling equipment. Finally, several minor civil works will be carried out.

Temporary measures for road and waterway traffic
To carry out the works safely, the waterway at the lock will be closed until 6 March 2026. A temporary emergency bridge has been installed over the lock for cyclists and pedestrians, allowing them to continue passing through the area safely.

With these works, we are ensuring that the Nieuwe Meersluis will once again be reliable, safe and ready for the future.
