Preparation for the renovation of the Papendrechtsebrug(N3) gets underway

Preparations for the renovation of the Papendrechtsebrug have begun. Since mid-August, work has been underway on the construction and set-up of the site facilities and a temporary quay along the Beneden-Merwede in Papendrecht. Production of the new steel bridge deck has also started.

The Papendrechtsebrug is a vital link between Papendrecht, Dordrecht and the regional road network of the Drechtsteden area. As the movable section of the bridge is nearing the end of its technical service life, the bridge deck — including the mechanical components — will be replaced.

Commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat, the replacement is being carried out by the Mobilis TBI–Croonwolter&dros consortium, in collaboration with Hollandia Infra and Machinefabriek Rusthoven B.V. The scope of work includes:

  • the new bridge deck with its mechanical systems;

  • the technical systems for operation, control and monitoring;

  • strengthening of the basement walls and the pier supporting the bridge deck.

Portfolio-based approach

The same team — Rijkswaterstaat, the Mobilis–Croonwolter&dros consortium, Hollandia Infra and Machinefabriek Rusthoven — previously worked together successfully on the renovation of the movable section of the Haringvlietbrug. We are building on that experience to deliver this project efficiently and with due care.
