This summer, the Dijkzone Alliantie Arcen will begin reinforcing and realigning the dike in Arcen. But until then, we are certainly not standing still! Early last Wednesday morning, the first gates of the self-closing flood barrier were delivered by electric lorry.
These gates measure approximately 9.5 metres long, 4 metres wide and 3 metres deep, and each weighs nearly 7,000 kg. In the coming period, a further 61 gate sections will follow – all of which are currently being fabricated at our yard in Krimpen aan den IJssel.
Dike Reinforcement Arcen
This project is being carried out by Dijkzone Alliantie Arcen (Ploegam, Dura Vermeer and Hollandia Infra) on behalf of Waterschap Limburg and forms part of the national High Water Protection Programme (HWBP) – the largest dike reinforcement initiative since the Delta Works. Together, we are building a flood-safe and attractive Meuse landscape for the future!
