Successful installation of new staircases on the Oosterschelde Barrier

Since June 2022, Hollandia Services and Takke Breukelen B.V. have been working together on the design and installation of new staircases on the Oosterschelde Barrier. After an execution period of 14 months, the last of the 218 staircases has now been installed. At each of the 65 piers, three or four staircases have been placed. These new staircases provide a direct connection between the exit of the traffic gallery, the pier and the service road. In the previous situation, there was no direct connection between the service road and the pier, meaning accessibility during maintenance has been significantly improved.

In the coming period, Takke Breukelen will continue with the completion of the new access from the service road. This includes installing high screens at all new access points and placing intermediate railing.

The project, commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat, is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025.
